Officials in the office of the president of Ukraine contacted the world association in order to broadcast a video in which the leader calls for an end to the war through negotiations.

The world soccer association FIFA refused the request of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to give a speech in which he would call for peace during the opening of the soccer World Cup match that will take place on Sunday between France and Argentina, it was reported today (Friday) by the American news network CNN.

According to the report, which came from the team of President Zelensky, the office of the Ukrainian president asked the association to broadcast before the game to the spectators in the stadium in Qatar and around the world a short video in which President Zelensky will address the world and call for an immediate solution to the war raging in his country. It is not clear if the intention is a pre-recorded video or a live speech.

"We thought that FIFA Interested in using their massive platform for the greater good," the source told the American news network.

Despite the criticism, the source claims that the negotiations with FIFA continue and the answer is apparently not final. The association refused to respond to the request of the American news network.

In the past, the President of Ukraine has held video addresses at a variety of international events, including the meeting of the 20 industrialized countries, the Cannes International Film Festival, the Grammy ceremony as well as other cultural and political events.
