Russia's delegate to international organizations in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, stressed the importance of the Biological Weapons Convention, despite its lack of binding force.
"This agreement constitutes a strong deterrent for all countries, contributes to the maintenance of international peace and security, and provides the necessary basis for further steps to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation," Gatilov said, according to the Russian Novosti Agency.
Gatilov added: This would contribute significantly to increasing confidence among the member states of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxic Weapons, and sharply reduce the repercussions of what was revealed of US biological activity in Ukraine.
