Eva Kaili has led a glamorous existence in recent years.

Insight into the life of the EU politician suspected of corruption.

Brussels/Strasbourg – She is at the center of the corruption scandal in the European Union: Eva Kaili.

The Greek EU Vice President is said to have allowed herself to be bribed by Qatar.

Politics according to the taste of the Gulf state for money.

Kaili and others are accused of "membership of a criminal organization, money laundering and corruption".

She is in custody.

Last Friday, Kaili was arrested in Brussels for allegations in the Qatar affair, as was her partner.

According to Belgian judicial circles, searches of EUR 150,000 were found in their shared apartment, and another EUR 750,000 on Kaili's father.

Kaili "didn't know anything about the existence of this money," her attorney said.

But even without this additional money, Kaili has had a good time in recent years.

A glimpse into the luxury life of the politician who has now crashed.

Kaili's Instagram account: jet set life between Morocco and Brazil

On Instagram, Kaili has already given an insight into her private life from time to time.

"Your account is full of glossy photos, like rich IT girls, film or music stars," writes

Focus Online

.

The Swiss newspaper

Blick

has a headline about the “luxury life of Eva Kaili”.

Holiday photos show the Greek member of parliament in Morocco or on the Italian Riviera.

She spent a "dinner with friends" in the British Virgin Islands.

Her boyfriend, Francesco Giorgi, likes to share pictures of sailing trips.

He is also in the sights of the judiciary – and is said to have already made a confession.

In total, Kaili has shared 602 photos with her more than 55,000 followers.

You can also see her in metropolises like Moscow or New York, where she enjoyed an “electrifying evening with friends”, as well as in holiday destinations like the Canary Islands or on the beach in Brazil.

The

Switzerland Times

also reports on "extravagant parties".

Kaili is said to have often celebrated with the Russian-Greek entrepreneur Ivan Savvidis.

He is an admirer of Vladimir Putin and owner of Greek Premier League club PAOK Thessaloniki, Kaili's birthplace.

In 2018, Savvidis was banned for three years for running onto the field with a revolver at a football game.

Financially, Kaili appears to be solvent.

All MEPs receive a uniform basic salary, the so-called allowance, which is paid from the EU budget.

According to the European Parliament, this is currently 7,665 euros before taxes.

After deducting the EU tax, this corresponds to around 6,000 euros.

However, there are still some additional funds, such as reimbursement of travel expenses.

A parliamentarian's salary is around 9300 euros per month.

This is of course less than the sums that are now being mentioned in connection with the Qatar affair.

Kaili listed her entire fortune in the Greek transparency register "Pothen Esches" at 463,000 euros.

Around 400,000 of them are said to be with the Belgian KBC Bank, as the Greek portal

Hellas Posts

reports.

The sums had doubled within two years and could not be explained solely by MPs' diets.

It is not entirely clear where the money came from.

A part is said to come from the sale of a 250 square meter house.

Her real estate assets list a total of five properties, four of which she owns 100 percent and one owns 25 percent.

According to

Hellas Post

, she owns, among other things, a 169 square meter apartment in the posh Athens district of Psychiko.

One of the apartments is in Brussels.

"Bags full of cash" were found there, as the investigators announced.

Eva Kaili: Ascended for years and crashed at breakneck speed

Kaili started her career in her hometown of Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece.

At the age of 20, the then architecture student became a city councilor in 1998.

After graduating in architecture, she studied international and European relations and trained as a journalist.

As of 2004, Kaili became a familiar face to many Greeks.

She began hosting the news at Mega, one of the country's major commercial television networks.

In 2007 she then moved to the upper echelon of national politics: Kaili, then 29 years old, was elected to the Greek parliament.

She was the youngest member of the Pasok party.

In 2014, the move to the EU Parliament followed, now after years of ascent, the crash.

On Monday, the Greek authorities then froze all of Kaili's assets: "bank accounts, safe deposit boxes, companies and all other assets," according to the Greek Anti-Money Laundering Authority.
