Buenos Aires
Thrilled after the victory against Croatia which sends Argentina to the final, Daniel, 32, throws himself into the arms of all those who pass within his reach.
The sweltering heat is smearing the sky blue and white paint he smeared on his face to follow the semi-final on a giant screen in Buenos Aires.
“Frankly, we need it and we deserve it.
I don't know where I'm going to sleep tonight, but until Sunday, I forget all my problems,”
he says with a smile.
Homeless since the pandemic, Daniel survives by selling boxes he collects on the street.
But, that evening, he felt as happy as the thousands of people heading for the Obelisk, a traditional place for celebrating sporting emotions.
Like him, many Argentines spontaneously associate the intoxication that the dream of a third star gives them with a form of reward, or in any case compensation, for the economic slump in which they are plunged on a daily basis.
