In 2023 a lot will change for consumers in terms of money, duties and taxes.
Many can even look forward to more money from the state.
Munich – With the start of the new year, German consumers are faced with a number of innovations.
The traffic light government passed many changes in 2022, which will come into force in 2023.
Because of the high inflation, families, pensioners and trainees receive more money in some areas.
What will change in 2023 at a glance:
More child benefit from January 2023
Good news for families: Child benefit will increase in the coming year.
From January 1st, there will be a standard fee of 250 euros per month for each child.
Parents who have already received child benefit or who have successfully applied for it do not have to do anything - the amounts will be automatically adjusted and the new amount will be paid out in the coming year.
This is reported by the Federal Employment Agency.
Pension is expected to increase significantly in 2023
Not only parents can look forward to a little more money.
Pensions are also expected to rise in the coming year.
From July 1, 2023, pensioners in the west are to receive 3.5 percent and in the east 4.2 percent more.
However, the final figures can only be announced in the spring.
Then the exact figures of the wage statistics are available, on which the pension amount depends.
No additional earnings limit for pensioners
The pension increase isn't the only good news for seniors.
Because from January 2023, the additional earnings limit for retirees will no longer apply.
In plain language, this means that every retiree can continue to work as normal, despite drawing a pension, without having to fear deductions.
"Minimum wage" for trainees
Anyone starting an apprenticeship in the coming year can count on a little more money in many sectors.
Because then the statutory minimum training allowance increases from the previous 585 euros per month to 620 euros in the first year of training.
From the second year there is 18 percent for trainees, from the third 35 percent and from the fourth 40 percent more than the starting amount.
But there are also exceptions.
The minimum remuneration does not apply to professions regulated by state law, such as educators, or to regulated professions in the healthcare sector, i.e. physiotherapists or speech therapists.

Higher taxes and contribution costs for employees
Employees expect bad news with the change into the new year.
Then the contribution rate for unemployment insurance increases from 2.4 to 2.6 percent.
The additional amount for statutory health insurance will also increase from 1.3 to 1.6 percent of gross income, half of which will be paid by employees.
But there is also some good news for employees: the basic allowance for income tax is to increase from 10,347 euros to 10,908 euros.
Tax savings can also result from the home office flat rate, which can be offset against income-related expenses up to a maximum of 1000 euros - 5 euros per working day.
