Parisian metro: lack of drivers, crowded trains, works... why it gets stuck

While attendance is back at 90% compared to the pre-Covid period, the Parisian underground network is experiencing a sharp deterioration in traffic.


Isabelle explains that she has "a lump in my stomach" every time she arrives at the gates of the Mairie de Clichy station, on line 13. "I never know if I'll be able to take it," she sighs.

Like her, users of the Paris metro have been suffering for several months.

Even the RATP recognizes this: “The months of October and November were particularly difficult for our passengers”.

Difficulties that generate a strong weariness and additional stress for millions of passengers, who nevertheless remain, most of the time, admirably calm.

Like this Tuesday, December 13, when, in the middle of rush hour, seven lines were affected by slowdowns causing complications and cascading delays.

That is half of the network.
