The companyUnsere Grüne Ozean (UGG) wants to lay fiber optics across the board in Berg – if other neighboring communities join in.

The advantage: UGG also makes its lines available to competitors.

Berg

- The reaction of the Berger municipal council was restrained, the lecture by Julia Tenbücken engaged.

The representative of the company Our Green Fiber Optic wants to supply all the streets in Berg where there is no fiber optics - at her own expense, the municipality of Berg would not have to pay anything.

It is still unclear whether the community will agree that the company can dig in public ground - initially it was only about information.

There is currently internet via DSL in each of the 2,559 buildings in Berg.

"But only 39 percent of the connections have more than 200 mBit," said Tenbücken.

Six percent have a cable connection, the strength of which, as a so-called shared medium, fluctuates all the more the more users are on the cable.

"With fiber optics, each house has its own line that is separate from its neighbors." Tenbücken presented an initial rough plan based on publicly available data.

The advantage of cooperating withUnsere Grüne Optik would be the so-called open access: the company would allow other suppliers access to its network.

This means that the citizens could choose their provider themselves.

Telekom does not allow that with its lines.

"We're fast," added Tenbücken.

“On average, we expand a community in 12 to 18 months.” UGG does not have the minimum marketing quotas known from other fiber optic providers.

"Of course, we want to sell house connections and receive transmission charges, but we trust the technology." Nevertheless, the effort must be worthwhile for UGG.

Should the municipality of Berg decide in favor of our green fiber optics, one or two neighboring municipalities would have to be brought on board so that it would be profitable for UGG.

UGG mostly works in open construction, said the company spokeswoman.

The cables would preferably be laid in footpaths or cycle paths at a depth of 40 centimetres.

"We are leaving the community area in such a way that every house could have a connection." This means: If you don't decide in favor of UGG right away, you still have to have a line laid from your house to the so-called PoP integrators.

These integrators are a sort of distribution box that UGG would love to build on a community lot.

Verena Machnik (Greens) spoke to Tenbücken about the bad ratings of her company on the Internet because the marketing was apparently very aggressive.

That was due to a service problem from O2, the UGG spokeswoman replied.

"We are working on that and O2 has changed service partners."

At the suggestion of the Deputy Mayor Andreas Hlavaty, who chaired the Council session, the administration is preparing a letter of intent for cooperation with UGG.

This resolution had four dissenting votes.

UGG is a cooperation between Telefonica and Allianz, partner is the Internet provider O2.

One is strongly represented in the region, said Tenbücken.

Among other things, Münsing wants to use the company to advance its fiber optic expansion.
