The “Cane of the Blind” project, presented by the two Syrian engineers, Fatima and Yasmine Al-Ismail, won the 2022 World Competition (WSA) organized by the United Nations to promote digital innovation that has a positive impact on society for young people under the age of 26.

The two engineers, Al-Smail, won the award through their company called “Pain Tech”, which is incubated within the Information and Communication Technology Incubator at the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics branch in Lattakia.

In a statement to SANA reporter, Engineer Fatima indicated that her project and her sister were chosen among the top 5 projects out of 300 projects submitted by participants from 80 countries, indicating that the idea of ​​the project is based on helping the blind to walk and overcome obstacles and avoid stumbling and falling through a talking stick, using techniques modern digital.

Fatima noted the importance of participating in this competition, which includes many member states of the United Nations, and is considered an international platform to showcase the latest innovations in information and communication technology to society through a gathering of startup companies with businessmen, social experts, mentors, referees, speakers, experts, government leaders, academic competencies, and civil events. They conduct the necessary tests to evaluate the digital products presented, their service to society, their compliance with the goals of sustainable development and digital competence, and then select the winners.

In her turn, Engineer Yasmine stated that what distinguished this year’s competition was that the European Youth Award (EYA) was considered part of the international competition “WSA”, which made the competition greater. However, she and her sister were able to win, which in her opinion is solid evidence of the creative energies of Syrian youth. And his ability to achieve the best results, if he gets support such as the one provided by the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics.

The head of the association’s branch in Lattakia and the director of the incubator, Engineer Maryam Jawdat Fayoud, expressed the association’s pride in the victory of the project (Cane of the Blind), which was one of the creative ideas received and sponsored by the Information and Communication Technology Incubator, considering that what distinguished the two sisters was their dream, clear vision and determination to establish their company, as well For the association to provide the necessary support and advice to participate in local and international events.

Fayoud indicated that the incubator is one of the important projects and entities of the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics, which aims to provide sponsorship and support for the entrepreneurial ideas of the young generation in the digital field, in an effort to transform them into projects and products of benefit and benefit to the owners of the idea and society, and thus these young people become owners of emerging companies that are able to exist. Within the digital market locally and globally, similar to what is adopted in developed countries.
