Illnesses, accidents, private fates or moving away: Various reasons have led to the fact that the house Bambi of the Lebenshilfe Miesbach now has to declare a personnel emergency.

Neuhaus

– The cry for help doesn't come too soon.

The workforce at Haus Bambi in Neuhaus is already extremely thin.

From January there is even a threat of downright holes due to several departures from employees.

The care of children with intellectual and multiple disabilities could falter.

In an interview with our newspaper, Lebenshilfe manager Inga Kockerols (56) explains how this could happen, what the consequences could be and what the Bambi house needs now.

Ms. Kockerols, what is the current staffing situation at Bambi?

Inga Kockerols:

Simply and movingly dramatic.

Already in December we have extreme bottlenecks that can hardly be compensated.

If I have written a shift plan with great difficulty, I can throw it in the wastepaper basket three hours later because someone is absent again.

Why is it?

Inga Kockerols: A

lot of things come together.

Not only the current wave of infectious diseases - from RS, scarlet fever to Corona is all included - is constantly hitting us hard, but also accidents and other, long-term illnesses.

The remaining colleagues then try to fill in the gaps, which of course leads to overload and exhaustion for them.

A cycle from which there is currently little escape.

And which will come to a head from January.

Why?

Inga Kockerols:

Six of our current 35 employees at Bambi will leave us at the end of the year.

The reasons are private, but in all cases very understandable and urgent.

For example, two colleagues have since started a family and need a larger apartment.

Because they can't find anything affordable here, they turn their backs on the district - and with it on us.

And this despite the fact that they felt very comfortable in Haus Bambi.

In general, I can assure you that nobody goes because of the atmosphere.

Is it made worse by the current problems?

Inga Kockerols:

The tensions in each individual are increasing.

And of course our children and young people notice that too.

They have very fine antennae and are often very dependent on the consistency of their caregivers and their care times.

When things get mixed up like they are now, it gets very irritating and also leads to crises.

I'm all the more impressed by how well they're still dealing with it.

They even try to help each other within their limited means.

What would you need to help house Bambi?

Inga Kockerols:

Two new specialists and qualified helpers - that would be my dearest Christmas wish.

The positions are advertised, but the market has been swept empty.

Nevertheless, we do not give up hope.

What about volunteer support?

Would that also be an option to at least be able to cope a little better with the most difficult weeks?

Inga Kockerols:

In principle, every helping hand is very welcome.

But the home supervision is very restrictive because our children simply have a very high need for support.

Of course, we are always willing to train new staff, but that also requires human resources.

So that's what we're missing at the moment anyway.

If nothing changes in the medium term, do you have to come back to the children's parents more?

Inga Kockerols:

They do what they can anyway.

But the children cannot be cared for at home for a long period of time.

Otherwise you would not be with us in the Bambi.

However, we involve the parents very closely in our planning and let them know openly and transparently where we are at the moment.

Parents, employees of the Lebenshilfe from other institutions, the Anton Weilmaier support center where the children go to school, and the team from Haus Bambi - everyone is currently helping together to make it work at all.

But now we need help.

These children cannot go home permanently.

There is also no other facility that has vacancies.

We have to be able to take care of these children.
