Hong Kong Customs yesterday (16th) detected a suspected smuggling case using a cross-boundary truck at the Lok Ma Chau Control Point.
During the operation, Customs officers intercepted an outbound truck declared to be carrying diodes, timers, integrated circuits and capacitors, and seized a total of 856 suspected smuggled portable game consoles with an estimated market value of about HKD1.3 million. Customs emphasizes that smuggling is a serious crime. According to the "Import and Export Ordinance", anyone who imports or exports unmanifested goods, or imports items specified in Schedule 1 of the "Import and Export (General) Regulations" without an import license, upon conviction , can be fined up to 2 million yuan and imprisoned for 7 years.
Customs will continue to strictly enforce the law through risk assessment and intelligence analysis to crack down on cross-boundary smuggling activities.
