Some Tesla superchargers are now also available for e-cars from other brands – but this leads to problems, as a Reddit video now shows.

Whenever the subject of hydrogen propulsion is discussed, one problem arises: the inadequate infrastructure.

At Tesla, on the other hand, it was quickly recognized that it would be difficult to sell one's own electric cars if there was nowhere to draw electricity at the appropriate speed.

So Elon Musk's (51) company set up its own network of superchargers, which were undoubtedly an important reason for the success of the electric car manufacturer.

According to Tesla, there are now more than 40,000 superchargers worldwide.

And in the meantime, other brands are also allowed to use the superchargers.

But a video now shows a problem that comes with it.

Jaguar charges to superchargers - and becomes a problem for Tesla drivers

On the Reddit platform, a user uploaded a video (below) of a Supercharger charging station.

You can see a Tesla parked backwards and a Jaguar i-Pace parked forwards.

In between there is another slot at a Supercharger.

Now you can see a Tesla maneuvering backwards into that gap.

When the driver gets out and wants to connect the charging cable, he is surprised to find that the column that suits him is already occupied - by the Jaguar.

Jaguar charges on a supercharger - a Tesla charging station is blocked as a result

The problem: The Jaguar i-Pace has its charging connection on the front left - accordingly, it also uses that column, because otherwise the cable would not be enough.

The Tesla, on the other hand, has its charging socket on the back left: If it now parks backwards, it needs exactly the same column.

The result of the "foreign charger" is a blocked charging station that nobody can use in this case - this would be the column to the right of the Jaguar.

Jaguar blocks Supercharger - Users discuss possible solutions

The video sparked discussion on the r/Teslamotors subreddit.

In the comments, users ponder possible solutions:

  • "Just allow cars with the charging port on the back left or front right?"

  • "Tesla should equip each charging station with a second cable so that two cars parked next to each other can charge at the same time."

  • "Jaguar needs to start selling their EVs with an extension cord."

  • “Honestly, why not just do it like we did with the gas pumps?

The cable is attached high up, with a long cable and a device that keeps it off the ground.”

  • "The real solution is to place the charging station in the middle of the parking lot instead of on the divider, so the cable can be accommodated on either side - but only for that space."

  • "It's very annoying that e-vehicles don't have standard charging ports."

Let's see if Tesla takes care of the problem.

In Germany, Elon Musk has trouble with his superchargers anyway – because they do not comply with calibration law.

The Munich start-up Wirelane, in turn, used this fact to advertise its own wall boxes in a letter to its customers.

However, Tesla did not find this funny at all and responded with a warning.
