A person, who was skiing off-piste, died Saturday late morning in an avalanche on the Lauzière massif in Savoie, we learned from the gendarmerie.
The facts took place shortly before 11 a.m. at the level of the Combe des Plans (1545 m above sea level), in the town of La Léchère, the same source said.
No information was given on the identity of the victim, who was pulled out of the avalanche by rescuers.
This is the 4th death in an avalanche in almost two weeks in the Alps, all sectors combined.
The three previous fatal avalanches took place on December 10 in Vars (Hautes-Alpes), on December 7 at Pic Blanc du Galibier (Savoie) and on December 5 in Enchastrayes (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).
The Lauzière massif straddles the Tarentaise valley and the Maurienne valley, where the avalanche risk was "marked" on Saturday above 2200 m, according to Météo-France.
