Sometimes it takes the right person in the right place at the right time.
Hüseyin Seher is one of them.
Germering – At the beginning of December he happened to be in Germering, noticed a fire in an apartment and took the resident out.
It was his third fire rescue.
It's Friday afternoon.
The weekend is just around the corner.
Hüseyin Seher is looking forward to two days off.
The 42-year-old visits friends in Germering with his wife.
But the cozy afternoon ends abruptly.
When the Fürstenfeldbrucker looks out of the window, he sees flames licking out of a window opposite.
He immediately runs to the apartment building.
Of course, he doesn't know which bell belongs to the fire apartment.
"So I pressed all the buttons," reports Seher.
When the door opener finally buzzes, he rushes into the building to the door behind which he suspects the fire and bangs on the door.
He's right.
A completely confused, soot-smeared girl opens the door.
Thick black smoke billows through the apartment.
The young woman is completely beside herself.
She's in shock.
Hüseyin Seher grabs the girl, takes her outside and hands her over to his wife, who is waiting in front of the building.
He only noticed the smoke inhalation later
But he knows that the danger is not over yet.
If the fire spreads, the other residents of the house are also threatened.
He runs back into the apartment and tries to fight the fire with a bucket of water - but to no avail.
So, with the presence of mind, he closes the door of the burning kitchen to stop the fire from spreading - and finally gets himself to safety.
He only realizes later that he contracted smoke inhalation trying to extinguish the fire.
(
By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular
FFB newsletter.)
The police are now investigating how the fire could have started.
Apparently, a frying pan filled with fat caught fire on the stove.
Because the 16-year-old wanted to extinguish the flames with water, the fire spread even faster.
Police Award
Hüseyin Seher has been honored by the Germeringer police for his selfless work.
Inspection manager Roland Nist presented the Fürstenfeldbrucker with a small reward organized by the Citizens & Police Support Group.

"Of course I didn't do it because I get money for it," said Seher at the handover.
He wasn't afraid.
"There was no time for that." For him, it was a matter of course to help without hesitation.
Incidentally, it was not the first time the 42-year-old had been in a burning building.
He saved a person from the flames in Turkey 25 years ago, and then again in Germany nine years ago.
However, the involuntary firefighter does not want to become a professional firefighter.
He is quite happy with his job.
And he hopes he doesn't have to rescue someone from a burning building again.
"But I would do it again."
