The snowfall, especially on Friday, has turned many streets into dangerous slides.

The Erdinger police spoke of "numerous accidents" and a "loss of control" by several drivers on snow and ice.

Erding – The airport tangent east was particularly affected.

Two articulated lorries were damaged here in the late morning and early afternoon, and their drivers had to avoid cars.

As a result, the FTO was blocked almost all day.

For several fire brigades and rescue companies, the distressed people meant hours of hard work.

Airport tangent: Truck comes off the road

The first accident happened around 12 noon between the Niederneuching and Erding-Süd junctions.

According to the police, the 70-year-old driver had to brake due to traffic and avoid a car ahead.

The vehicle, which weighed several tons, came off the state road and got stuck behind the crash barrier over its full length.

The tank ruptured and several hundred liters of diesel ran into the ground.

This posed an environmental hazard, since a drainage pipe runs in this area, which empties into a biotope.

It took hours before the truck was maneuvered back onto the road and could be towed away.

This truck turned 90 degrees between Ottenhofen and Markt Schwaben and then got stuck between the embankments.

Airport tangent: Truck has to swerve and starts to skid

A good two hours later, a similar process: A driver (52) from the Erding district drove south on the FTO.

The man lost control of his car between the Ottenhofen and Markt Schwaben exits.

The 39-year-old driver of an oncoming trailer truck had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision.

The truck skidded, turned 90 degrees and came to rest across the FTO, wedged between the embankments.

In addition, despite the evasive maneuver, the car crashed into the trailer truck and a second car.

None of the occupants involved were injured, according to police.

The total damage is in the higher five-digit range.

There were also numerous other fire brigade operations over the weekend - again because of trees that had fallen under the weight of snow.
