Video | '#Belfie', a suspense series against bullying and school suicide made by schoolchildren

2022-12-17T11:20:04.396Z

The fiction has been shot in Cullera and young people from the town have participated in it, with the support of the City Council

Maya Torres, a high school student, begins to suffer a true nightmare when a compromised photo of her goes viral, which will lead her brother Carles to investigate who is hiding behind its dissemination.

Both are protagonists of '#Belfie', a three-episode series created and performed by a group of students from Cullera (Valencia) with the intention of combating bullying and youth suicide.

The initiative arose from the Cullera City Council when, in the midst of a pandemic, the Department of Youth detected various cases of cyberbullying through social networks.

"The young people wanted to create a project to raise awareness of cases of suicide, mental health, bullying, and from there everything started," explains Jordi Mayor, mayor of the municipality.

What at first was going to be a short film ended up becoming a series of three 20-minute chapters, in which they address issues that affect adolescents such as racism, feminism and homophobia.

Joan Beltrán, screenwriter, director and producer of '#Belfie', says that its purpose was to raise awareness about bullying and help prevent cases of suicide in young people "because bullying is the consequence of wanting to end their lives ”, according to what he told this newspaper.

The project, in which the young people of the municipality have participated altruistically, has had the help of the Cullera City Council to cover the costs of filming.

The consistory has turned to the series and has donated technical material for the production.

“A theater company lent us the lighting equipment and the music group 'Zoo' has given us their free songs for the series”, points out the young director.

Beltrán trusts that his message “reaches passive harassers, people who see an action that is not right and say nothing.

Because that is the message, if we do not act, nobody is going to change these things”.

The collection obtained by the series, which can be seen at the Victoria de Cullera Cinemas until December 20, will go to the Valencian Association Against School Bullying (AVALCAE).
