Charlene of Monaco settled into the palace for a rare chat to mark the tenth anniversary of her foundation.
There was also time for private insights.
This is how the princess and her family feel today.
Monaco - "I feel so much better," Charlène of Monaco (44) opens the conversation with the
Monaco Matin newspaper.
Actually, the princess appeared for the interview to talk about the 10th anniversary of her foundation "Fondation Princesse Charlène".
She shared this special moment with Prince Albert II and cut a five-tiered cake with him to celebrate the day.
Charlène: "I continue to recover, to rebalance myself"
The moment came when the native South African opened up about her health problems that had kept her away from the principality for a year.
A lot has happened since she returned to the principality on the Côte d'Azur in spring 2022.
"First of all, I would like to say that I am doing so much better today than I have in the last few years," Charlene told the local newspaper.
"I have less pain and a lot more energy."
"I continue to recover, to rebalance myself," she continues.
"It will still take some time, but I'm happy.
My family and the people I love are my rock.
I'm taking on the future, step by step, one day at a time.”
Strong words from a woman who was lying on the ground.
Friends had reported that Charlene "almost died" at the height of her illness.
Instagram pictures showed her emaciated to half her body weight.
Charlene of Monaco's ordeal
Charlène from Monaco had to undergo several operations in South Africa as a result of a severe ENT infection.
In photos she looked extremely emaciated.
The friends are now revealing the reason: the ENT infection had led to severe sinus and swallowing problems in connection with a previous operation.
"She hasn't been able to eat solid food for over six months," the paper quoted the source as saying.
The report goes on to say that Charlene "could only drink liquids through a straw, so she lost almost half her body weight."
"They love and protect each other and share an immense amount of goodwill."

The mother of the country also gave the newspaper private insights into the relationship between her twins, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella (both 8 years old).
"They are two children who have their own language and understand each other," she continued, highlighting the special bond the siblings share - a trait Prince Albert joked about elsewhere: "It makes them accomplices." .

Mama Charlene regularly shares snaps of her little ones on Instagram and goes on to reveal, "They love and protect each other and share an immense amount of goodwill," Charlene added.
"It's quite a unique connection, I have to say, and I see that specialness that the twins share." The former Olympian can also see parallels in her work with the children she supports and funds through the foundation.
For ten years now, she has been working there with international educational projects in the areas of learning to swim, water safety and teaching values in sports, among other things, to ensure that fewer children drown.
