The currently best two-wheeler mechatronics technician in Germany comes from a training center in Herrsching.

At the Nandlinger bike shop, Luca Trumpetter turned his hobby into a job.

Not only did he finish at the top of his class, but he also took first place in the national competition.

Herrsching

- "I spend every free minute on my bike," says Luca Trumpetter in an interview with Merkur.

He has nurtured this passion since he was a child and turned it into a career straight away after graduating from school.

And with great success: the 20-year-old completed his training as a two-wheeler mechatronics technician at the Nandlinger bicycle shop in Herrsching, the best in his class in Bavaria.

With this performance, he qualified for this year's performance competition of the German trade in Frankfurt - and returned home as the winner.

On the day of the competition, he prevailed against seven competitors from different federal states.

Four tasks had to be mastered, each within 45 to 60 minutes.

First they had to replace a brake, then spoke and true a wheel.

As a third challenge, participants were asked to diagnose an e-bike, and as a fourth and final challenge, to disassemble and repair a gear hub.

In terms of quality and time management, Trumpetter won first place and thus also the invitation to the upcoming European competition in February 2023. If he also wins this, then the fight for the title of the best two-wheeler mechatronics technician in the world will follow.

The Nandlingers are very happy about the outstanding performance of their employee.

"We are very proud," says Valentin Nandlinger, junior boss and master bike mechatronics engineer.

Five years ago, the family business trained its first trainee, Leo Straub, Luca Trumpetter's predecessor.

And he too had completed his apprenticeship at the top of his class in Bavaria.

Since then, the Nandlingers have taken on another apprentice every year, currently there are three.

The company attaches great importance to good training.

"The most important thing is that the trainees are properly encouraged and get to know all areas," says the junior boss.

The newcomers should not only be trained in the workshop, but also in customer contact and sales.

A point that is also well received by Luca Trumpetter.

What he liked best over the past three years was the varied areas of responsibility, the contact with customers and, of course, working with screws in the workshop.

"I enjoyed a great education and found the right job for me." Whether changing tyres, replacing chains or repairing brakes - he enjoys the manual work on used bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes and high-end racing bikes.

He owns a mountain bike and a travel bike, likes to go on tours and loves the type of cycling called "downhill", in which a downhill route is covered as quickly as possible.

"I'm very ambitious there."

After all the learning and practicing, the exams and competitions, Luca Trumpetter is currently enjoying a few well-deserved weeks of vacation.

In the new year he returns to his job at the Nandlingers in Herrsching and starts his master's degree there.

This further training, which is divided into theoretical and practical modules, will last one year.

He also has a trip to Bern in Switzerland in February.

Because that's where the European competition takes place.
