Price increases or not: are there still chains that do not approve price increases? | Israel today

2022-12-18T19:46:33.870Z

Consumers are under stress: today the Strauss price increase will come into effect - but are there still chains fighting against it? • Assessment: "The situation will increase the appetite for private brand expansion - disproportionate increases will not be approved"

After the major food companies, such as Tnuva, Unilever, Terra, Hogla-Kimberly and others, announced price increases - Strauss' price list, which represents an average increase of 2.9%, is expected to be updated today.

Asem's price list is also expected to be updated on January 1 by 3.4%.

After the battle that the various chains entered into with Unilever and Tnuva, and after in some cases they succumbed to the price increases, we checked what is expected in the price segment at the large companies Strauss and Asem - which, as mentioned, are expected to raise their prices - and if the dam has now been breached for a flood of price increases one after the other.

An official in the industry told "Israel Hayom" that despite the attempts to raise prices, he does not believe that any price increase will now be approved so quickly, and that each case will be examined individually.

Shufersal fights against the rise in the prices of dairy products,

"The situation will give an opening and increase the appetite for private label expansion among the chains. Reasonable increases, at a moderate level of single-digit rates, will be approved. Disproportional increases will not be approved."

Not confirmed yet

Meanwhile, the networks state that they have not yet confirmed the price increases of Strauss and Asem.

Shufersal started a fight against various suppliers such as Tnuva, Terra and Unilever, even at the cost of not receiving goods.

Shufersal has currently approved part of Tnuva's price list, mainly the Gad products and the products that have no substitutes in the refrigerator, but has not yet approved the price increases of Unilever and Terra, and the rest of Tnuva's products.

Working to reduce the price increase

At Shufersal, each case is considered individually.

In recent months Shufersal has received applications from about 100 small, medium and large suppliers so far, and each of them will be examined.

Last week Shufersal announced that it will lower the prices of more than 300 selected products for six months.

Among the products that will be discounted: cheeses, oils for cooking and whipping, almond and rice drink, yogurts, delicacies, wipes, diapers, body and hair care products, household cleaning products, laundry products and more.

A reduction is also expected in the prices of pasta and noodles, cereals, dough, preserves, frozen products, juices, ice creams and more.

Carrefour Israel stated: "We are examining the demands of food suppliers to raise prices, and are working to reduce them as much as possible."

Even in the Victory network, they have not yet confirmed the new price list of Strauss and Asem.

The Yohannoff supermarket chain announced that they are not approving any increase at the moment.

The intention is for future increases, such as those of Assem and Strauss.
