The FA renews confidence in coach Southgate

The Football Association announced today that Gareth Southgate will remain in his position as coach of the first team.

Southgate, 52, was studying his future in the aftermath of the World Cup elimination from the quarter-finals, after losing 1/2 to the French national team, the defending champion.

The British news agency "BA Media" stated that Southgate's contract continues until the European Nations Cup "Euro 2024", but he stressed that he feels conflicted about staying after the past 18 months witnessed great difficulties.

But the former international defender will continue to coach the team for its fourth major championship.

"We are pleased to confirm that Gareth Southgate will continue to serve as England manager and lead the team in their Euro 2024 campaign," Mark Bullingham, chief executive of the Football Association, said in a statement.

He added: "Gareth and his assistant Steve Holland have always had our full support and our plans for the Euros start now."

Southgate led the England national team to reach the semi-finals in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the European Championship final that was held last summer, before reaching the quarter-finals in Qatar.

During the preparation for the Qatar World Cup, there was great criticism of Southgate because of the negative results.
