It is about not only eliminating that vision that F1 had as a sport associated with CO2 emissions, but also turning it into an example for the different motor disciplines and the automotive sector as a whole.

In addition, as a testing ground for the industry, it seeks to promote improvements in technologies that will later be applied to vehicles that hit the road.

All this, of course, without losing an iota of the emotion generated by one of the greatest shows in the world.

Precisely, the key to achieving both objectives is the promotion of new technologies within the Great Circus.

The NetZero initiative has maintained this principle as the cornerstone on which all its actions revolve, which have strategic allies such as Banco Santander, which has returned to F1 as a sponsor of Ferrari to take another step in its work to promote change towards a more sustainable planet.

If before we mentioned the arrival of hybrid engines, today it is worth talking about the biofuels introduced this year that had to contain 10% ethanol.

But also its subsequent evolution in which it is ensured that work is already underway for 2026 and that it would be 100% sustainable.

Another key is efficiency.

For example, it has been possible for Formula 1 cars to be 30% more efficient in fuel consumption or for the new carbon-neutral engine to be closer to being a reality so that by 2025 some of the best drivers in the competition like Carlos Sainz, a Ferrari driver, can transfer all these advances to the Grand Prix tracks.

They are one more part of the single-seaters, because with their driving and experience "they seek to make the race as efficient and short as possible", as the Spanish driver assures.

The technological development that Formula 1 is undergoing goes beyond cars, as Charles Leclerc acknowledges: "The efficiency of F1 cars today is absolute madness, but I think that sustainability is being promoted throughout the sport at a higher level."

And the advances and steps that are being taken in the competition and in teams like Ferrari show it.

Common objectives

All these advances are produced not only by the changes that society is experiencing in its concern for the planet.

The encouragement and contribution of allies such as Banco Santander, thanks to its return to Formula 1 as sponsor of the Italian team, is also key when it comes to achieving those successes that benefit not only the competition but also society as a whole. .

The entity shares commitments, objectives and values with Ferrari and F1 to promote the fight against climate change.

As George Bridges, Senior Advisor to Ana Botín, President of Banco Santander, explains, "if we put sustainable business practices at the heart of our business model we can make a real difference, not just for tomorrow but for future generations."

sustainable alliance

Although the color of both is red, the reunion between Santander and Ferrari is that of a team, which together with FOM, is willing to dye this competition and, ultimately, the industry green.

Santander has positioned itself in the first half of 2022 as a world leader in financing renewable energy projects, with a total financed of more than 2,400 million euros and has teams specialized in advising large clients in their green transition.

The entity is also carbon neutral in its activity since 2020 and has the ambition of reaching zero net emissions in the activities of its clients, derived from any of the financing, advisory or investment services offered by Santander before 2050.

Formula One Management (FOM), owner of F1, is the third engine of this change that is already going at top speed, ready to reach pole position before even 2030.
