The star Lionel Messi spoke about his future with the Argentine national team, after he led his country to crown the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Messi, 35, scored twice during an exciting 3-3 draw with France after extra time and scored one of the penalty shoot-outs during the eventual 4-2 victory.
Messi had previously said that the World Cup in Qatar would be his last with the national team, but the Argentine captain and historic scorer did not decide the date of his international retirement and preferred to celebrate with his colleagues and the fans.
The Argentine legend confirmed that he would continue his international career, and said in an interview with an Argentine channel, "I want to continue to play some matches as a world champion."
In another statement, he indicated that he currently prefers to enjoy with the fans, and said, "We now have an opportunity to celebrate with the fans. I thank God for winning the desired title. I dedicate the cup to my colleagues and the Argentine people. We are world champions now, we should have been the champions despite the difficulty of the task." .
Messi faced tremendous pressure to repeat what the late legend Diego Maradona did, who led Argentina to its previous title in 1986, and Messi lost the 2014 final against Germany in Brazil.
But he made a huge impact in Qatar, scoring seven goals, along with three assists, and was awarded the Golden Ball for the best player in the tournament.
