The star of the French team Kylian Mbappé, author of a hat-trick including two penalties in the World Cup final against Argentina, crowned world champion on Sunday on penalties, finished top scorer of the tournament with eight goals.
Lionel Messi has been voted the best player of the 2022 World Cup.
Lionel Messi, winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina against France (3-3, 4-2 tab) on Sunday, was named best player of the tournament by Fifa, ahead of Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, top scorer with eight achievements.
The seven-time Ballon d'Or, already best player at the 2014 World Cup, scored two goals against France and seven in the competition as a whole (including four from the penalty spot), also delivering three assists.
The 35-year-old has especially become the first to score in the group stage, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the same edition.
With thirteen goals in four World Cups, Messi, who was probably playing his last World Cup, is now the fourth top scorer in the history of the tournament, tied with the Frenchman Just Fontaine.

Mbappé top scorer
Mbappé, on Sunday, became the second player to score a hat-trick in the World Cup final, after the Englishman Geoff Hurst against Germany in 1966. With twelve goals in two appearances (as well as two assists in the 2022 edition), the 23-year-old equals legend Pelé to become the sixth top scorer in World Cup history.
The best goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who notably saved three shots on goal during the competition, and the best young player, midfielder Enzo Fernandez (21), are also Argentines.
Croatian Luka Modric (37) was named the third best player of this World Cup.
With seven and four goals respectively, Messi and French striker Olivier Giroud are the tournament's second and third top scorers.
