“Sport is the ally of health”

2022-12-19T15:12:36.872Z

Regular physical activity has many positive health effects. However, too few French people play sports. To convince them to be less sedentary, the mutualist group VYV is committed, as its prevention director explains in this video.

Thirty minutes is, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the time that should be devoted each day to the practice of physical activity in order to fight against a sedentary lifestyle.

This is responsible for five million annual deaths worldwide.

Almost as much as tobacco!

In France, we are now very far from the mark: only 5% of adults do enough sport to preserve their health capital.

Many benefits

However, who does not know?

Putting on your tracksuit for jogging, going to the swimming pool every week, to a pilates or gentle gymnastics class, this can only be beneficial.

"Having regular physical activity helps fight depression and type 2 diabetes and its benefits are particularly measurable in the case of chronic diseases"

, notes Laurent Adouard, prevention director of Groupe VYV and general manager of MNT.

Sport helps to avoid many chronic pathologies, it plays a major role there, but it also proves to be a valuable asset for people in remission after serious health concerns.

"We now know that it significantly reduces the risk of recurrence of breast or colon cancer"

, gives the example of Laurent Adouard.

Develop therapeutic physical activity

It is therefore not surprising that Groupe VYV, the leading health and social protection mutual player in France, has made the development of sport one of its priorities.

The most emblematic example?

Coverage of adapted physical activity sessions (APA) prescribed to members suffering from a long-term condition by three entities of the group, Harmonie Mutuelle, MGEN and MNT.

“Although ordered by a doctor, they are not reimbursed by Health Insurance”

, says Laurent Adouard.

Several Sport-Health Centers have also been opened.

These are establishments that offer exercises adapted to people suffering from chronic illnesses or in a situation of disability as well as to seniors.

They are also open to members wishing to be accompanied before starting or resuming sport.

Facilitate access to sports practice

To encourage the practice, the group's mutuals have taken other initiatives.

The MGEN, as part of ÔJI, its offer for students, supports 50 euros each year when registering in a sports club.

It also organizes FitDays, which allow young people and their parents to learn about triathlon and benefit from nutrition advice.

In conjunction with local authorities, this mutual fund has also launched the Apiness system (intergenerational outdoor physical activities for sport and health).

Its vocation: to build outdoor sports facilities accessible to all.
