Under the slogan (For a better climate, we plant trees), the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, at the initiative of (Dabbana and Partners) Company, set up an afforestation campaign on the airport road in Damascus countryside to plant 1,500 forest seedlings, as part of the annual afforestation campaigns that the ministry holds.
Head of the Department of Forestry and Nurseries at the Ministry of Agriculture, Majd Suleiman, confirmed that the ministry seeks to perpetuate the concept of sustainability by cultivating forest species by inviting all governmental and non-governmental agencies and institutions to participate in the five afforestation campaigns that the ministry launches annually, indicating that this campaign covers an area of 4 hectares.
Engineer Bilal Al-Shalleh, Head of the Damascus Countryside Forestry Department, indicated that 1,500 various forest plants will be planted that are tolerant of drought and climatic changes, including oleander, acacia, Aleppo pine, palm trees, and casuarina, pointing out that the afforestation plan for the current season in the governorate is about 332 hectares, while last year it reached about 691 hectares. An implementation rate of 100 percent, and a success rate of 85 percent in planting.
Engineer Zuhair Al-Sit, Technical Director of (Dabbana & Partners) Company, stressed that the company, as an agricultural company, has a duty to provide service and agricultural solutions, and to take a positive role that is not isolated from social or environmental activities, indicating the importance of afforestation campaigns in maintaining a clean environment.
Eng. Osama Issa, a participant in the campaign, pointed out the need for everyone who can contribute to afforestation and help restore the green cover, while Ruba Bishara wished the company to circulate this initiative to other companies, schools and universities.
