The politicians' increased fees became the main topic of debate in the council in Trellborg on Monday. The increase was hammered out and the chairman of the municipal board Ann Kajson Carlqvist (M) gets the most money. - I fully understand if it sticks in the eyes, but I have been wrongly paid in the past, she says to SVT Nyheter.

The meeting started at 2 p.m. and shortly after 4:30 p.m., the remuneration committee's proposal could be hammered through.

This means that Trelleborg's taxpayers will have to pay five million kroner extra next year.

Into the budget work

The increase was supposed to take place in two stages, but on Monday's council only the increase for next year was hammered out, while the 2024 increase is to be taken into the upcoming budget work.

Municipal board chairman Ann Kajson Carlqvist (M) will cost the municipal residents the most.

Her fee will be increased from SEK 71,500 to SEK 89,000 in 2023. This corresponds to an increase of approximately 25 percent.

According to the original proposal, the increase would have landed at 75 percent in two years.

- As it is today, I have a very big responsibility for the municipality.

Therefore, I am entitled to a higher fee than I have today, says Ann Kajson Carlqvist (M).

"Smoke out of their ears"

In the debate, the Social Democrats declared that the party distanced itself from the decision.

- They are the ones who go ahead with this act despite the fact that the contempt for politicians is only growing, says S-group leader Sven Lindqvist, who is also a member of the remuneration committee.

Ola Olsson (C) was also among the upset.

- People are freaking out.

They are cooking.

And senior officials, it's coming out of their ears, he said.

Against the party line

Even within the Moderates, opinions were divided.

Isac Rubin (M) declared that he is going against the party line.

He insisted that the fees must not exceed 100 percent of a parliamentary fee.

However, the proposal lost in a vote.

An attempt to postpone the decision by a re-referral was voted down.

A majority considered that the matter should be decided during the Monday afternoon.

And so it was.

At 4:35 p.m., the full council made the decision to approve the remuneration committee's proposal.
