[NHK] The work of organizing the budget for next fiscal year is nearing its end. The government plans to set the total amount of the general account to about 114 trillion yen in the budget proposal for FY2023 next fiscal year.

The government has started making adjustments to increase the total amount of the general account to about 114 trillion yen in the budget proposal for FY2023 next fiscal year.

According to people involved, the total amount of the general account is expected to exceed 110 trillion yen for the first time as the initial budget, the largest ever, reflecting the significant increase in "defense expenses."



Of these,


▽ the "Defense Expenditure" that the government aims to drastically strengthen will increase significantly to about 6.8 trillion yen, which exceeds the initial budget for this fiscal year by about 1.4 trillion yen.



Separately from this, we plan to use non-tax revenues such as special account reserves to allocate funds for future defense build-up costs on a scale of 3 trillion yen.



In addition,


we will continue to post a contingency fund of 5 trillion yen, which has been set aside for measures against COVID-19 and inflation, as in this fiscal year

On the other hand, the estimated tax revenue is expected to exceed the estimated amount of more than 68.3 trillion yen at the stage of the second supplementary budget for this fiscal year, and it is expected to be the largest ever.



The government plans to proceed with final adjustments, such as negotiations among ministers, toward the Cabinet decision on the budget for next fiscal year.
