Cinema: "Avatar 2" achieves the best start of the year in France

"Avatar 2" gathered more than 1.8 million viewers in France five days after its release, achieving the best start of the year and doing better than the first opus, 20th Century studios announced on Monday.

James Cameron's new blockbuster, lasting 3h12, made 1.847 million admissions for its first 5 days of operation, marked by the holding of the semi-final (France / Morocco) and the final of the FIFA World Cup, which saw Argentina win on penalties against France.

"Nearly 2/3 of these entries were made in theaters offering 3D HDR and HFR technology, and in the majority of cases, in premium theaters", specify the production studios in their press release.

Until then, the film with the best start in theaters in its first week of operation was "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", with 1.69 million admissions, according to CBO Box Office data.

Denying the death of cinema in theaters 

For comparison, the first "Avatar" had gathered 1.806 million spectators during its first five days in theaters, for a total of 14 million spectators.

Globally, the film was the biggest box office success in history, grossing nearly three billion euros.

"Avatar: the way of the water" takes the path of the star Pandora, light years from Earth, for a science fiction fable with an environmentalist tone, which aims to surpass the first opus at the box -office and deny the death of cinema in theaters, after the box of "Top Gun: Maverick" (6.6 million admissions).
