The Parliamentary Investigation Committee into the storming of the US Congress voted in favor of recommending 4 criminal charges, including rebellion against former President Donald Trump, to the Ministry of Justice, while the White House said it did not want to politicize the work of the committee.

Today, Monday, the Parliamentary Investigation Committee into the storming of the US Congress voted in favor of recommending 4 criminal charges, including rebellion against former President Donald Trump, to the Ministry of Justice.

The charges are obstruction of Congress, conspiracy to defraud the US government, conspiracy to make false statements, and mutiny.

At the end of its last public session to end its expanded investigation, which lasted for nearly a year and a half, the committee, consisting of 7 members of the Democratic Party and two members of the Republican Party, voted on its final report, which will be published next Wednesday.

Al-Jazeera correspondent Wajd Waqfi said that the recommendations that will be issued by the investigation committee are symbolic and have no legal consequences, as the Ministry of Justice has the authority to file criminal charges against those involved in these events.

The reporter added that President Joe Biden authorizes the Minister of Justice to make decisions in isolation from the White House regarding storming Congress.

A member of the investigative committee said the evidence collected amounted to referring Trump and others to criminal prosecution.

The White House was quick to stress that it did not want to politicize the investigation committee's work and interfere with its fact-based work.

The former president denies the accusations of inciting his supporters to storm Congress to obstruct the ratification of Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election, describing it as politicized.

Publication of evidence

During the last public session, the chairman of the investigation committee, Democratic Representative Benny Thompson, said that the evidence collected by the committee would be published before the end of the year.

Thompson added that Trump "mobilized the mob and sent them to the Capitol and called them to fight," according to him.

For her part, Liz Cheney, Vice Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry, said that the former president sat in the White House and followed the attack on the Capitol building and did not move a finger.

Cheney added that a man who acted like Trump on the day of storming Congress could never serve in government office again.

A member of the Parliamentary Investigation Committee into the Congressional storming incident, Democratic Representative Adam Schiff, said that the report that this committee will issue includes strong evidence incriminating former President Donald Trump.

The investigation into this case included more than a thousand interviews regarding Trump and his close allies' efforts to overturn the results of the presidential elections and stop the peaceful transfer of power.
