Emmanuel Macron made two round trips to Qatar to attend France's semi-final against Morocco, then the final against Argentina.

According to our colleagues from "Point", these trips cost the taxpayer around 501,000 euros, or 31 years of minimum wage.

The carbon footprint of the presidential journeys dedicated to the World Cup amounts to 480 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, specifies the weekly.

The FIFA World Cup in Qatar is over, after a legendary game for France, which lost to Argentina on penalties.

Emmanuel Macron was in Doha to attend this grand final on Sunday evening.

The Head of State was also there, a few days earlier, to attend France's semi-final against Morocco.

The equivalent of 31 years of Smic

He had returned to France in the meantime, before taking the A330, the presidential plane, then the Falcon 7X, heading for Doha for the final.

The trips have indeed cost the taxpayer around 501,000 euros, or 31 years of minimum wage.

As the weekly underlines, Emmanuel Macron did not make a direct trip between Paris and Doha for his return from the France-Morocco semi-final: "The president flew not to Paris but to Brussels for the European Council on December 15, then his plane returned from Brussels to Paris and finally Paris to Évreux on the same day".

53 years of the average carbon footprint of the French

Emmanuel Macron has indeed made a detour through Egypt and Jordan before returning to Paris.

These various stops were not taken into account in the calculations of our colleagues because they were state missions.

"Without these subtractions, the bill amounts to 812,000 euros", underlines Le Point, which also calculated the carbon footprint of the journeys of the Head of State during the World Cup.

According to the magazine, "the carbon footprint of the presidential journeys dedicated to the World Cup thus amounts to 480 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, or 53 years of the average carbon footprint of a Frenchman".
