Erding is now getting a warming room - at the instigation of the neighborhood aid Erding (NBH) without city support.
Erding - This was announced by NBH chairwoman and second mayor Petra Bauernfeind on Friday.
The starting signal is to be fired in February - in the rooms of the NBH on Mühlgraben on the edge of the city centre.
The initiative will be called "Café am Brückerl".
“Initially, we will serve free coffee, tea and water every Thursday afternoon.
Our guests should warm up, but also be able to find a nice conversation.
Newspapers, magazines and games will also provide entertainment,” announces Bauernfeind.
According to her, the offer is aimed "at all people who want to escape loneliness or cramped conditions, who cannot afford to visit a coffee house, who want to spend relaxed hours in the company without being forced to buy, or who want to read a newspaper in peace".
It doesn't work without any effort.
Bauernfeind announces that the NBH rooms need to be “retrofitted a bit”.
A dishwasher, a coffee machine, several cupboards and the redesign of the small adjoining room are on the plan.
The funds are already available.
The Scharl group of companies based in Erding and Dorfen made a donation of 5,000 euros on Friday.
And Bauernfeind admitted: "This support ultimately encouraged us to tackle the project now." The café should be looked after on a voluntary basis.
We expect two to three men and women to take on this task every afternoon.”
Anyone who enjoys "giving other people a little time, warmth and tender loving care is very welcome to join us," says the chairwoman.
In the medium term, it is planned that a team of volunteers will look after the project as independently as possible - of course with the necessary support from the board and office.
An information event is scheduled for mid-January.
Anyone interested in cooperation or support should contact nbh.ed@erding-mail or call (01 76) 51 09 68 86.
The association, which also looks after the table in the ducal city, has thus elegantly cleared up a dispute in the city council.
Almost exactly two years ago, the free voters in the city council had applied for a warming room to be set up as a meeting point with social counseling - in the rooms of the old post office at the S-Bahn station.
The application was linked to the demand to hire a force.
The project should cost 70,000 euros.
The suspicion arose in the city council that an employee of refugee aid was to be given a new job in this way.
Mayor Max Gotz (CSU) also pointed out that the specialist departments saw no need.
But at the 75th anniversary ceremony of Caritas Erding at the beginning of December, district manager Alexandra Myhsok and Caritas diocesan manager Gabriele Stark-Angermeier emphasized that they did recognize the need for a warming room.
At the same event, Bauernfeind announced that they would try again.
The "Café am Brückerl", she explained on Saturday, "is a much slimmed down offer that is all the more easy to implement".
And maybe it can be expanded.

My space
The extreme cold poses major problems, especially for the homeless.
Petra Bauernfeind, Chairwoman of the Neighborhood Aid, reports on conversations with those affected, in which they pointed out the importance of open and heated rooms.
These are, for example, the foyers of public buildings, some of which visitors can use WiFi for.
"During the talks, I noticed the little things that can make their lives easier," says Bauernfeind.
Her hope is that more such spaces will emerge.
For example, the catering areas of bakeries in supermarkets are popular.
According to Bauernfeind, these people are also accepted there.
According to the NBH chairmen, Helga Stieglmeier, member of the Greens district and city council, is in talks with Arbeiterwohlfahrt to create a regularly open meeting place in the AWO café on Münchener Straße.
We agree that there should be several public spaces for people on a budget to hang out in.
Since there is nothing to earn, there is no competition.” ham
