Today, Monday, the Iranian News Agency reported that 4 members of the Revolutionary Guards were killed in clashes with gunmen, in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeast of the country.
Quoting a statement by the Revolutionary Guards, the agency said that the dead were killed as a result of what it described as a terrorist act in the Saravan region of Sistan and Baluchestan bordering Pakistan.
The news agency added that the heavy presence of security forces and heavy fire forced the militants to flee to Pakistani territory.
The commander of the Border Guard units in the city of Saravan reported that armed clashes took place between the Border Guard forces and elements he described as hostile and terrorist.
The security official said that these elements intended to enter Iranian territory, via Pakistan, in order to carry out sabotage operations inside the country, as he put it.
The past years have witnessed repeated attacks on Iranian security forces in Sistan and Baluchistan, the bloodiest of which was the bombing in 2019 that targeted a Revolutionary Guards bus, killing and wounding dozens of its members.
In the border area with Pakistan in this province, armed groups are active, including the "Army of Justice", which the Iranian authorities hold responsible for many attacks.
