It had been closed since July 13, the day after the start of the fire which ravaged 7,000 hectares of forest this summer in Gironde.
The road that passes at the foot of the Dune du Pilat and connects La Teste-de-Buch to Biscarrosse, in the Landes, reopened this weekend.
Five months after the passage of the flames, the prefecture announced that traffic was again authorized on this stretch of about fifteen kilometers of departmental road 218. Until now, the closure had been maintained due to the works of felling charred trees threatening to fall.
This road is a major axis which serves the five campsites of the Dune du Pilat, including that of the Dune, known as the Flots bleus, all destroyed last July and where the clean-up work began.
Their owners, who lost everything in the fire last summer, hope that a reopening will be possible next spring.
Motorists who use it again must however drive at a limited speed ranging from 30 to 50 km/h.
Parking remains prohibited on the shoulders and only one access to the beach will be possible for the general public.
The forest road from which the disaster started remains, it, always closed to traffic.
