Faced with inflation, the municipality of Villejuif (Val-de-Marne) voted in favor of a total or partial exemption of canteen bills from November to January.
This device is aimed at the parents of the 2,000 schoolchildren enrolled in school catering and in particular low-income households, reports
Le Parisien
.
A budget of 200,000 euros is devoted to this measure, described as "extremely strong" by Mayor Pierre Garzlon.
The elected official intends to carefully monitor the new registrations that this free service could cause.
"This will give us an indicator of the brake that the cost of the canteen can represent for certain families", he explains.
But this is not the only device that the City has decided to put in place.
Alerted by the lack of donations made to food aid associations working in the city, the town hall has undertaken to pay them 50,000 euros in financial support.
This sum will be paid to associations such as the Secours Populaire, the Secours Catholique, the Restos du Cœur, the Red Cross or even Villejuifois solidaires.
