A moving funeral service took place on Monday afternoon for Monsignor Peter Lederer in Freising's parish church of St. Georg.

– Moving Requiem for Pastor Peter Lederer: With great sympathy, the faithful from the Freising parishes said goodbye to the popular pastor on Monday.
In the parish church of St. George, Auxiliary Bishop Bernhard Haßlberger paid tribute to the work of the recently deceased clergyman.
Afterwards, the mourners paid their last respects at his grave in the St. Georg city cemetery.
The faithful carried the coffin through Ziegelgasse to Pastor Peter Lederer's final resting place in the St. Georg cemetery.

Hasslberger emphasized that the Easter candle was lit on his coffin as a symbol of Christ, the light of the world.
Christian faith sees in death the light of Christ's love.
A pastor of the kind one could only wish for, that was Lederer.
He recognized early on that his place was with the people in the community.
When, after being ordained to the priesthood in 1986 and having worked for two years as a chaplain in the parish of St. Korbinian in the Untersendling district of Munich, he was called to serve at the archbishop's palace on Kardinal-Faulhaber-Strasse in Munich, he "didn't last long there". , said Hasslberger.
"It wasn't his world."

The spiritual way
He worked in Peiting in the Weilheim-Schongau district for eight years of his priestly life, and then in Oberammergau.
With his likeable, human nature, Lederer has built bridges everywhere to connect the worldly and the spiritual, said the auxiliary bishop.
Great tasks awaited him when he came to Freising in 2013 as the successor to Pastor Michael Schlosser.
The tasks
The restructuring of Freising's parishes to form the Stadtkirche Freising was pending.
The first steps were taken cautiously.
Nothing was "put on".
But he was no longer allowed to bring in the “harvest” of the town church.
The news of Lederer's early death was full of sadness.
In the autumn he had ordered a "furniture truck" because of the diagnosis made at the time, in order to move from Freising to his new parish of St. Francis in Neufahrn.
However, the journey went somewhere else, according to Hasslberger.
Full of trust, Lederer brought the Good News of Christ to the people.
When donating the sacraments, he radiated confidence: "Go your way, God goes with you and holds his protective hand over you".
He went to his death with the same trust, always hearing the sentence from the Gospel of Matthew: "Be assured, I am with you always, to the end of the world." After the requiem, the faithful carried the coffin to the grave final resting place of Peter Lederer in the city cemetery.
