Pöcking

– children in the district of Starnberg learn about environmental education from an early age.

The municipal company AWISTA-Starnberg teaches third graders responsible environmental behavior, waste avoidance and the system of waste disposal in the district in a lesson.

District administrator Stefan Frey also wanted to get an idea of the AWISTA campaign and recently visited the Pöcking elementary school.

"With this school offer, AWISTA Starnberg is making a significant contribution to creating more awareness for the topics of waste avoidance, resource efficiency and reuse at an early age and thus experiencing even more acceptance in the Starnberg district," said Frey, who is also the chairman of the board of directors of the municipal company , enthusiastic about the offer, according to a press release.

Every day, the children experience first-hand what it means when rubbish is simply thrown away in parks, on the way to school, in schoolyards, streets or other public places.

The AWISTA employees tried to deal with the topic of waste in the environment in a playful presentation.

Questions such as "Who knows, for example, how long it takes chewing gum to decompose in nature?" were clarified.

But also what happens to the waste after it ends up in the garbage can at the house, in the garbage house at the housing complex or at the recycling center.

The lecture addresses what happens to organic waste, paper, cardboard, cardboard and packaging waste in the yellow bag and how difficult it is to sort out so-called "waste" from the waste.

The instructive lesson ends with a specially developed sorting game in which the students have to prove that they have become waste experts.

The best waste expert in the class receives a small gift for this.

As a reminder, all children are given pen sharpeners in the shape of a small rubbish bin and matching colored pencils.

In addition, all elementary schools in the district have the option of supplementing and extending the "AWISTA school lesson" with a guided tour of the recycling center.

The municipal company already offers the tours to schools for the second graders.

Secondary schools, communities or organizations can also contact AWISTA-Starnberg for a guided tour.

Last year, at the start of the "AWISTA school lesson", seven schools with 17 classes and a total of more than 400 children took part.

In addition, 24 guided tours with around 600 children took place at the AWISTA recycling centers in the district.

The municipal company is pleased about the positive response from the schools this year as well.

The "AWISTA school lesson" is currently taking place at eight schools in 20 classes in the district.

Interested teachers from primary schools in the district of Starnberg can contact Marina Stöger on the telephone number (0 81 51) 2 72 64 02 or by e-mail to marina.stoeger@awista-starnberg.de.
