Three policemen were killed today (Monday) during a raid on the house of a suspect in the killing of the deputy commander of the southern district of Ma'an, Aqid (Lt. Col.) Abd al-Razzaq al-Dalabih.

Al-Dalabih was killed after being wounded in the head by a gunshot while participating in a demonstration in the al-Husseiniyyah area. According to the announcement of the Directorate of Internal Security, the suspect involved in the act was also killed during the raid. The announcement claimed that he was part of a Salafi (fundamentalist Islam) campaign. Also, eight other suspects were arrested and taken for questioning.

At the end of the week, the directorate announced the arrest of no less than 40 suspects in the various districts who were involved in the riots on the night between Thursday and Friday.

The violations of order developed following a protest over the rising fuel prices in the country in recent years.

On Saturday, King Abdullah had time to visit the home of the senior police officer to comfort his family members.

The king emphasized in the house of the slain in the city of Jerash that "anyone who raises a weapon before the state and attacks public property and the rights of citizens will be dealt with decisively."

According to him, "the attacks and acts of sabotage are a dangerous threat to the security of the homeland and we will not allow it."

In his words to the family of the slain, the King added that "This is my son and that of all Jordanians. We will not rest until the criminal receives his punishment in court for his heinous crime. We will not accept insults or attacks on the members of the security mechanisms who oversee the security of the homeland and citizens."
