Montreal World Treaty on Nature: The Eighth Day of Creation

2022-12-19T13:47:24.397Z

A diplomatic masterpiece, a geological moment: The world treaty is fixed and the UN summit gives the world rescue (on paper) the paradisiacal touch.

Oh, if only the trees could dance.

And the bees swarm like drones and write victory signs in the sky, and the fish all jump out of the water for joy, so that the whole world can see what visionary world rescue perspectives are in our mailboxes in distant Montreal under the green negotiating umbrella of Beijing was laid.

A few hours just after Qatar's miracle final, the environmental wonder of Montreal.

We will not recognize our planet, our politics.

The sixth mass extinction in Earth's history?

Cancelled.

Ecocide now has an end date: 2030. In eight years we will be out of this self-inflicted mess.

Thirty years after the "Rio Earth Summit", the UN biodiversity summit, which had been postponed from Kunming in China to Montreal because of Corona, has declared the "war against nature" - and thus against ourselves, as UN head Guterres ushered in the fateful summit - to be over.

Who doesn't want to dance with the trees, wallow in the sea of flowers with similar plans: In eight years, a third of the globe is to be left more or less to nature, the protected areas on land are to be doubled and in the sea tripled.

Where life revels in the most lush diversity, in the species-rich hotspots and true paradises, air, water and also the soil will belong to the most magnificent creatures and the most dazzling plants.

Now it's raining money and pure green happiness

Destroyed biotopes are being renatured, pesticides and over-fertilization are being halved, instead there are torrential flows of green capital: two hundred billion dollars in eco-repair and nature conservation investments annually until 2030, and half a trillion dollars in subsidies worldwide will be eliminated (or “reformed”, as it is honestly called) with them which today encourage the destruction of nature, and finally flows of money from the rich to the poor countries (which includes China!) of initially twenty billion dollars, from the middle to the end of this decade thirty billion dollars.

In short: The new World Conservation Convention serves the boldest nature conservation dreams in their thirties.

And that almost overnight.

Two days before the signatures of the almost 200 government delegates, there were still rain dances in Montreal to ensure that the summit would not fail.

Now it's raining money and pure green happiness.

Could there have been a more appropriate moment for this historic, no, geological moment than the week before Christmas?

The eighth day of creation, and man does not back down.

Truly, a Christmas that should never end.
