Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the services of surrogate mothers in Russia for foreign citizens.

This was reported by TASS.

The law provides that only Russians who are married or a single woman - a citizen of Russia who, for medical reasons, cannot bear or give birth to a child on her own, will be able to use the services of surrogate mothers.

Earlier, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said that the decision to ban foreigners from using surrogacy would prevent the sale of children abroad.

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children Elena Vtorygina, in an interview with RT, commented on the statement that a decision to ban foreigners from using surrogacy in Russia would be made in December.
