Sociologist Schneider: Because of the crisis, Germany risks turning into a "state of the poor"

German sociologist Ulrich Schneider, in an interview with Focus magazine, said that there is a threat that, with the current vector of behavior, Germany will turn into a "state of beggars."

As he noted, this risk is associated with a large jump in energy prices and an increase in the cost of living.

“The sharp increase in the cost of living has led to an increase in poverty in Germany,” RIA Novosti quotes him.

According to him, people who were already poor "have become even poorer, their purchasing power has decreased even more."

Schneider pointed out that the economic difficulties have also begun for the middle class, which has almost no reserves, and therefore the breakdown of a washing machine or car "quickly turns into a catastrophe."

“Germany has been a modern welfare state for many decades.

We must not allow it to quietly turn into a state of beggars, because we do not give the poor what they need, ”the sociologist emphasized.

Earlier, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach did not rule out that some hospitals could close in the country due to rising inflation and the energy crisis.

In addition, the Minister of Economics of Germany, Vice-Chancellor Robert Habek said that the difficulties in the energy sector in Germany risk developing into a social crisis.
