Fürstenfeldbruck – In two house collections, 179 soldiers received almost 15,800 euros in just four hours.
This is a little less than in the previous year, but still an excellent result.
The local population makes a valuable contribution to the preservation of war cemeteries in Germany and 46 other countries.
The so-called VIP collection on November 1 raised 3,900 euros.
On this day, the site senior, Brigadier General Stefan Scheibl, and the Mayor of Fürstenfeldbruck, Erich Raff, asked for donations at the cemeteries in the city of Fürstenfeldbruck.
As every year, city councilors and members of the air base were also there.
With the cemetery collection in the Gröbenzell municipality, the Gröbenzell reservists' community achieved a donation result of 1,250 euros.
Thanks to an internal collection and the sale of commemorative candles, an additional 982 euros were raised.
In the large hall of the officers' home, the site senior, Brigadier General Stefan Scheibl, welcomed
Volunteers receive certificates of honor
The district association of Upper Bavaria, in the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge eV, thanked the volunteers with a standing reception.
The guests present were honored on behalf of the soldiers of the 1st training group of the Air Force Officer School.
Soldiers from the Bundeswehr Center for Geoinformation, the Air Force Technical Training Center in Kaufbeuren, Command Support Sector 1 in Fürstenfeldbruck and the Gröbenzell reservists' community were there.
The helpers received a certificate of honor from the Volksbund.
Peace cannot be taken for granted
The message of the German War Graves Commission is clear and is also reflected in the mission statement of the German people, "Together for Peace" is the motto again this year.
Mr. Bendedikt Klima, Managing Director of the Upper Bavaria District Association, stated in his speech: “For many people, peace has become a matter of course.
But therein lies the danger that peace and mutual coexistence will not receive the necessary attention”.
"This is particularly evident in the current war of aggression by Russia on Ukraine, which has deeply shaken the European peace order."
Unfortunately, with a heavy heart, the German War Graves Commission had to largely stop its work for safety reasons.
In addition to the core task of maintaining the war cemeteries, the Volksbund has also made it its task to
to develop these sites into "places of learning history".
To tell today's generations the fates that were ended far too quickly by war and tyranny.
In order for this humanitarian and social peace work to be carried out, not only voluntary collectors are needed, but also the population, who make a very individual contribution with their donations.
