Southwest puts pressure on in the fight against drug shortages

Fever syrup and cough syrup are out of stock, and other medications cannot be delivered more and more often - Baden-Württemberg is now demanding that the federal government react quickly to the shortage of medicines for children.

According to a letter from the head of the Ministry of Health, Leonie Dirks, to the Federal Ministry of Health, the federal government must now “immediately take appropriate remedial measures”.

At a meeting between the Baden-Württemberg ministry and the state’s health authorities, the further deterioration in the situation was described as “partially dramatic”, the letter said.

Among other things, Dirks criticizes the unequal distribution of certain medicines in Germany.

Wholesalers should be given specifications for stockpiling “that ensure an appropriate supply according to regional needs”.

In addition, measures should be examined to prevent "hoarding".
