On the occasion of Hanukkah, the National Fund for Israel is revealing today (Sunday) rare archival photos of Hanukkah celebrations from the early years of the country, as it was celebrated by the children of Israel and the children in the diaspora long before the festival and the many holiday performances.

Whether they participated in a human menorah in Argentina, or lit candles in the bosom of the family in Moshav Lozim shortly after they arrived from Yemen, or celebrated in kindergartens throughout the country where it was established - everyone flaunted the decorations on their heads, spun carousels and rejoiced in a simple and cheerful way.

According to Efrat Sinai, director of the KKL-Junk photo archive, "Even 50 and 70 years ago, the children of Israel and the Diaspora celebrated Hanukkah, as they celebrate today by lighting candles and wearing crowns on their heads.
The KKL-Junk photo archive is happy to share exciting photos from the Hanukkah celebrations in the young state of Israel and in the Diaspora. Since KKL-Junk was founded about 120 years ago, its photographers have accompanied the Jewish communities in Israel and abroad. The documentary treasures are kept in the KKL-Junk Photo Archive.
