Syrian-Sudanese talks for cooperation in the field of agricultural education and scientific research

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, discussed during his meeting today with the Minister of Agriculture and Forests in Sudan, Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bishri, and the accompanying agricultural and technical delegation, the relations of joint cooperation in the field of agricultural scientific research, the possibility of exchanging grants, establishing programs and conducting joint agricultural research.

Minister Ibrahim praised the Syrian-Sudanese relations at the political, economic and scientific levels, pointing out that the ministry seeks to activate and develop the scientific cooperation agreement signed between the ministries of education in the two countries and to update and renew it, through coordination and cooperation with the Sudanese ambassador in Syria in order to exchange scholarships in the important specializations that characterized by countries.

Minister Ibrahim referred to the need to establish joint scientific and research cooperation programs in the fields of animal wealth, forests and forests that characterize Sudan, and to direct master’s and doctoral theses in postgraduate studies in universities towards focusing on the required topics, noting the role of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), and the agreement Scientific cooperation signed with him in order to activate joint scientific research in this field.

In turn, Minister Al-Bishri drew attention to the importance of scientific research and the need to move towards agriculture based on scientific foundations, to benefit from modern technologies in agriculture and irrigation, and to invest optimally the outputs of agricultural research, reviewing what ACSAD is doing in the Sudanese states and regions, and the need for researchers to benefit from its library He pointed out that more than 400,000 hectares are cultivated annually in Sudan.

The Director General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), Dr. Nasr Al-Din Al-Obeid, praised the role of the Ministry of Higher Education in supporting the concerned authorities and ministries, with experts, technicians and professors who have achieved real development in Syria, and its pursuit of applied scientific research that results in development projects that lead to Growth and advancement in the various sectors, especially agricultural, industrial and tourism, which have a fundamental and effective role in bringing about real development and achieving food security.

The meeting was attended on the Sudanese side by Eng. Abdullah Issa Zayed, Minister of Agriculture in the Blue Nile region, Eng. Al-Sadiq Muhammad Othman, Minister-designate, Director-General of the Ministry of Production in the White Nile state, Eng. Abdel-Moneim Hassan Khalifa, Minister-designate, Director-General of the Ministry of Production in the state of Gezira, and the Sudanese ambassador in Damascus, Dr. Tariq Al-Tom.
