Superintendent David Bitan (63) informed the police commissioner during the morning (Monday) of his request to retire.

At the end of two years in the position of Deputy Inspector General and about 37 years of service in the police, Superintendent Beitan announced the end of his position.

The retirement of Chief Beitan comes against the background of the expected changes in the police with the assumption of office by the designated Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gabir, and in view of the changes that the organization is expected to undergo in view of the changes in the political system.

However, it is important to note that this is an expected move.

Now, his retirement opens a new round of appointments at the top of the police that will be made under the new minister.

"These days I am finishing 42 years in the civil service, of which about 37 years in the uniform of the Israel Police," said Chief Beitan.

"I held a series of positions in the core of police activity. I held four superintendent positions. I established new police units and stations, led significant organizational moves, managed countless operations, and raised generations of police officers and commanders. After serving for over a generation in the organization, the time has come to hang up the uniform."

A long list of roles

Among Beitan's positions in the police over the years: Commander of the Tel Aviv District, Commander of the Southern District, Head of the Division for Logistics Planning, Commander of the College for Senior Officers, Superintendent of Lachish and Commander of the Ofakim and Ashkelon stations. Superintendent David Beitan informed the Commissioner that his retirement will take place upon completion of the round of appointments with the Minister of Internal Security and the completion of an orderly overlap with his replacement when determined.

"The decision was made in full coordination with the Commissioner of the Police Chief Superintendent Yaakov Shabtai and out of great mutual respect and appreciation," added Bitan, "the Israel Police and its officers are very dear to me and they are an inseparable part of my life." The Commissioner respected the Chief Commissioner's request , wished him success in the future and noted: "With my appointment to the post of commissioner and the building of the senior command staff of the police, I asked Superintendent David Beitan to stay and be appointed deputy inspector general.

To my delight, the head of Beitan responded to my request and before that it was set for a fixed period of time until we stabilize the organization together."

The two agreed that Beitan's superintendent will retire in the coming months with the conclusion of an orderly overlapping procedure.
