The Field Crops Research Department at the Agricultural Scientific Research Center in Daraa has fully implemented its plan for the current season for wheat and barley crops, with the aim of developing new varieties.
The head of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center, Dr. Sultan Al-Yahya, stated in a statement to SANA reporter today that the number of researches carried out in the fields of wheat and barley during this season reached 105 researches in the Izraa and Jlen stations, indicating that the food and fodder legumes, prevention and genetics researches are carried out by the time of planting.
He added: The aim of the research is to contribute to the development of new varieties that are suitable for the conditions of the region and are superior in quality and productivity to the local varieties traded by the farmer, and are tolerant of drought, heat, cold, salinity, early in maturity, resistant to diseases, dormancy and disintegration, and have good appearance and technological specifications, and are suitable for irrigated and rain-fed crops with the provision of services Artistic and technical for technicians and peasants.
The center has research stations, some of which are fully operational in Jalleen and Izraa, and some of them are damaged, and partially functioning in Samakiyat, Muzayrib, Al-Yadoudeh and Al-Rai.
