A Palestinian official announced that the prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid, who has been detained in the occupation prisons since 2002, had entered a coma, while the Prisoners' Information Office stated that Abu Hamid might die at any moment.

Hussein Sheikh, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and head of the Civil Affairs Authority concerned with communicating with the Israeli side, said that Abu Hamid, who had lung cancer for nearly a year, had entered a complete coma.

Al-Sheikh added, in a statement published on Monday, that "the Israeli authorities agreed to our request to visit the family of the captive Abu Hamid, her son, in the hospital, at their request."

Palestinian institutions concerned with prisoners' affairs say that Abu Hamid's condition has deteriorated due to the Israeli occupation's delay in conducting medical examinations and providing him with treatment. He was recently transferred to an Israeli hospital for treatment.

For his part, the spokesman for the Prisoners' Information Office (non-governmental), Hazem Hassanein, said that the prisoner Abu Hamid "has reached a very critical stage, and began to breathe his last, and expects his death at any moment."

Hassanein added in a statement, "We are facing a full-fledged Zionist crime," holding Israel "fully responsible for the condition of the prisoner Abu Hamid, who is currently unconscious in the hospital."

He called on the Palestinians to "get ready and mobilize to respond to the occupation's crimes against the prisoners, especially the sick ones."

In turn, institutions concerned with prisoners' affairs (the Palestinian Prisoners' Club, the Prisoners' Affairs Commission, and the Higher Committee for the Follow-up of Prisoners' Affairs) called in a joint statement to participate in a stand in front of the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the city of Al-Bireh in the central West Bank, in solidarity with the prisoner Abu Hamid and denouncing the Israeli practices. .

The prisoner Abu Hamid is from the Al-Amari camp near Ramallah, and the occupation authorities sentenced him to 7 life sentences and an additional 50 years, on charges of participating in the establishment of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the military wing of the Fatah movement, and carrying out operations against the Israeli army.

Israel detains 4,760 Palestinians in its prisons - including 160 children and 35 women - according to data from the Palestinian Prisoners' Club.

According to the same source, there are 550 sick prisoners in the occupation prisons, of whom 18 suffer from cancer and various tumors, 4 of whom are in the late stages of the disease.
