  • An Africa summit was held from Tuesday to Thursday in Washington.

Food security, climate change and issues of democracy and governance were at the heart of this three-day meeting, intended to strengthen ties between the United States and the continent, in the face of competition from China and the Russia.

Joe Biden notably promised funding of $55 billion over three years for Africa.

  • More than 120 people died Tuesday in floods caused by torrential rain in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

The government has declared a three-day national mourning.

Significant material damage is also to be deplored.

  • South African President Cyril Ramaphosa escaped impeachment proceedings on Tuesday thanks to broad opposition in parliament.

Mired in a scandal for months, he is accused of having tried to conceal from the police and the tax authorities the theft of large sums of cash hidden in one of his properties.

  • The last 47 French soldiers left the Central African Republic on Thursday, after the withdrawal of most of the 130 soldiers deployed in recent weeks.

This departure comes four months after that of the French troops in Mali.

  • Tunisia is preparing to vote on Saturday in legislative elections boycotted by the opposition.

Survivors of the Kishishe massacre testify in Goma, a fortnight after the death of 300 people in this village in North Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The government accuses the M23 rebellion of being behind the attack.

The rebel movement denies the charges.

A little over a year after their birth in May 2021 under close surveillance in Morocco, the nonuplets returned home to Mali, where they were welcomed by the Minister of Health.

The nine babies, 5 girls and 4 boys, their big sister and their - happy - parents will continue to benefit from assistance from the Malian State.

All are in perfect health.

Liberia celebrates 200 years of its founding

Many African-Americans are fascinated by Liberia, this small West African country founded by freed slaves from the United States.

Some travel there, others settle there.

But 200 years after its foundation, the country is still scarred by the wounds of the civil wars of the 1980s and 1990s. Report.
