Munich – Snow during the Christmas season, that's what many people may have wished for this year.

The fact that the onset of winter over Germany will turn out to be so massive is something that very few people would have known.

Numerous regions have been under a thick layer of snow for days, and icy conditions in particular have caused chaos on the streets in many places in the past few days.

In the next few days, however, the weather is likely to calm down, a weather expert predicts.

Winter weather over Germany: Snow also on Saturday in some regions

According to qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung, managing director of the weather service Q.met, the mild westerly situation will try to assert itself with all his might in the coming week.

Then mild temperatures should determine the weather in the days before Christmas.

Cold air should remain "close to us".

However, it would only touch the north.

However, until the mild temperatures set in, it will remain quite cold over Germany for a few more days.

Until then, “Germany will continue to freeze,” says the weather expert.

The German Weather Service reported on Saturday light snowfall from the Ore Mountains through the Bavarian Forest to Berchtesgaden.

This should then increasingly move to Austria.

In some sections, smoothness should also be expected.

Frost should also first spread in the south and in the low mountain range, but also in Schleswig-Holstein and parts of Western Pomerania.

Weather in Germany: Mild temperatures are approaching

The end of the great cold should finally be heralded on Sunday evening, when the first regions should be able to look forward to milder temperatures.

From that point on, however, you don’t have to do without that winter feeling completely.

“The night on Monday brings freezing rain and slippery roads to large parts of Germany.

It will be really slippery again from west to east,” Jung continues.

In the course of Monday, the maximum values ​​should then rise rapidly.
