Magnetic fishermen recently used a large magnet to fish scrap metal out of the Neckar in Stuttgart.

The anglers shared their finds online - the users are shocked.

Stuttgart – At first glance you can't see what's slumbering in the depths of many bodies of water.

In a reservoir, for example, British researchers found the fossil of a so-called sea dragon and in Baden-Württemberg, 400 million year old life was discovered at the bottom.

But sometimes things are hidden in rivers and ponds that actually have no place there: scrap metal, for example.

So that this does not rust there forever, so-called magnet fishermen have made it their task to free the waters from it.

Most recently, a group of these anglers combed the Neckar in Stuttgart and fished some exciting items out of the tributary, reports BW24.

"Hello Stuttgart, I was with you on the Neckar for magnet fishing with like-minded people and thought I'd share the finds with you," writes Marcus Sonnenberg on the local "Schwarzes Brett - Stuttgart" Facebook group.

In addition, the somewhat different hobby angler posted photos of the yield.

“We were very successful, as you can see!” he continues.

In addition to the typical found items such as screws, nails and some bottle caps, the photos also show much larger magnetic objects.

These included two shopping trolleys, some scooters, a bicycle and even a go-kart for children - the river water and, above all, time have eroded the material.

Magnetic fishermen pull scrap metal out of the Neckar in Stuttgart – “Curious finds are always there”

Using a strong neodymium magnet, usually attached to a string, rope or chain

is fixed, Sonnenberg fished the scrap metal out of the Neckar with other comrades-in-arms.

The 37-year-old from Zurich has been a passionate magnet fisherman for two years, as reported

by BärnToday

.

On his Instagram account "magnetfischereieiei" he wants to sensitize his fellow human beings with photos of scrap fished out.

He is driven by nature conservation and water purification.

“I like to call it: combining the useful with the interesting.

There are always curious finds,” says Sonnenberg.

And that is also shown by his performance in Stuttgart:

In the net it rains mainly thanks for the magnet fisherman and the rest of the team.

Many users are also shocked by the objects slumbering at the bottom of the Neckar.

"Incredibly real", "violent, what's in there" and "I'm speechless at what people throw into the Neckar.

Something like that doesn't work at all, ”write some users on Facebook.

Numerous users lack understanding for those who dispose of their "garbage" in this way.

"It's crazy what's in there.

Why do people throw it in there?” asks a woman.

Sonnenberg doesn't have an exact answer to that either, but he suspects: "Out of sight, out of mind?

But thanks to the stupidity of these people, we have a brilliant hobby,” comments the Zurich native.

Magnet fishing allowed in Baden-Württemberg with the exception of a few locations

According to Marcus Sonnenberg, the scrap metal that was fished out of the Neckar will be disposed of by the city of Stuttgart.

This raises questions for some users.

“I thought magnet fishing was banned in Germany?

Did you do it on assignment or what? ”Writes a Facebook user.

In principle, magnet fishing is not prohibited in Germany, but the federal states can restrict it according to the catalog of fines - for example for reasons of monument protection, but also for safety.

Because the magnet can also attract dangerous objects such as bombs.

However, with the exception of a few places, magnet fishing is permitted in Baden-Württemberg.
