The Cologne-Dellbrück animal shelter is desperate.

More and more dogs are being abandoned or given up.

Individual care is hardly possible anymore.

Cologne – Every year, the animal shelter in Cologne-Dellbrück (district of Cologne-Mülheim) accommodates up to 500 dogs, 400 cats, 400 small animals and many hundreds of wild animals.

"We take care of every single resident, provide them with medical care and give them all the love they need at the moment." But that is becoming increasingly difficult.

Because currently there is pure desperation among the approximately 30 employees.

The reason: "We are bursting at the seams," writes the shelter in an emotional Facebook post.

Tierheim Köln Dellbrück is desperate: "At the moment we're really just running after time"

"We don't want to become an animal shelter that only manages the animals instead of taking care of each individual individually." But that's exactly what is threatening now.

“At the moment we are really just chasing time and making sure that everyone gets fed, goes for a walk and if possible no colleague is bitten,” it continues.

"We just can't do it anymore!

Our animal shelter is full to the brim.” It was only in the summer that the animal shelter took in nine terminally ill German shepherd puppies that had been seized by the veterinary office.

Another quadruped: dog Zlatko.

Despite the freezing temperatures, the "totally frightened male" was simply tied to a tree with his leash in mid-December and left behind.

The fire brigade finally saved him and brought him to the animal shelter in Dellbrücke.

It is not known what Zlatko had to experience, how old he is and who his owners were.

The only thing that is clear is that he has a Croatian chip, which is not registered.

The animal shelter therefore suspects that Zlatko is a so-called "foreign dog" who came to Germany through a dubious agent.

Animal shelter Cologne Dellbrück "is full to the brim" - that has a sad reason

In addition to seizures, found animals and dogs for sale, the animal shelter is full mainly because of so-called "foreign dogs".

“Supplied via the Internet by some club, handed over at rest areas without much getting to know each other – and if you don't like it, suddenly no one feels responsible.

There are no foster homes on the part of the mediators and the dear animal shelter should take care of the problem and relieve the overwhelmed adopters of their 'burden'. Several times a day you receive requests for donations in Dellbrück, the animal shelter sadly continues.

But sometimes the owners don't even bother to find a new home for the dogs.

Unfortunately, the dog Zlatko also had to experience this.

The appeal of the animal shelter is therefore: "Please don't be so naive and adopt an animal from abroad because you are in love with the photo on a website." The animal shelter warns that you should inquire in advance whether the association is serious .

"And above all: Get it in writing that the club will take the animal back if the worst comes to the worst!

That is a matter of course for us and you will get that in writing when you sign the contract.”
